Il Laboratorio Smart Cities and Communities (SCC) è dedicato alla ricerca, allo sviluppo e al trasferimento tecnologico nei settori energia, digitalizzazione e smart city. La sua missione è progettare soluzioni integrate per la gestione sostenibile delle infrastrutture urbane e per la valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale. L'approccio è sistemico e multidisciplinare, orientato a modelli gestionali innovativi e all'uso di tecnologie digitali per ottimizzare servizi e risorse nei contesti urbani e territoriali.
Nel settore energetico il Laboratorio sviluppa metodologie, strumenti e piattaforme per la gestione avanzata dei sistemi energetici. Le attività includono l'integrazione delle fonti rinnovabili nei sistemi urbani, la definizione di modelli di flessibilità energetica per edifici complessi, l'adozione di tecniche di demand-response e l'ottimizzazione dei consumi tramite algoritmi predittivi. Il laboratorio supporta inoltre la realizzazione di Comunità Energetiche, Smart District e Positive Energy Districts, e sviluppa sistemi di monitoraggio e controllo per infrastrutture energivore e reti di servizi. Queste competenze permettono di promuovere modelli gestionali più efficienti e rispondenti alle nuove esigenze del mercato energetico.
Nell'ambito della digitalizzazione e dell'ICT, il Laboratorio progetta infrastrutture digitali per la gestione intelligente dei servizi urbani. Tra le principali attività rientrano l'implementazione di reti di sensori e sistemi IoT per la raccolta di dati ambientali ed energetici, l'uso di Big Data Analytics per generare indicatori di performance, lo sviluppo di piattaforme interoperabili per la condivisione dei dati tra cittadini, PA e imprese, l'applicazione della blockchain per la sicurezza dei processi e la creazione di modelli predittivi per la gestione dinamica dei servizi urbani. L'ICT è considerata una tecnologia abilitante fondamentale per l'interoperabilità delle reti e per l'erogazione di servizi innovativi on demand.
Nel campo delle smart cities e delle smart communities il Laboratorio sviluppa modelli e soluzioni per l'integrazione sistemica di infrastrutture e servizi urbani, dalla mobilità all'energia, dall'illuminazione alla sicurezza. Progetta sistemi urbani basati su dati provenienti da sensori distribuiti, abilita servizi innovativi tramite piattaforme digitali e definisce modelli di governance orientati alla partecipazione attiva dei cittadini. Le architetture ICT scalabili e modulari garantiscono interoperabilità tra reti e componenti urbane, con l'obiettivo di creare comunità intelligenti capaci di rispondere dinamicamente ai bisogni collettivi.
Il Laboratorio applica inoltre le proprie competenze alla tutela e valorizzazione del patrimonio artistico e culturale. Sviluppa sistemi di monitoraggio energetico e ambientale per musei, siti archeologici ed edifici storici, soluzioni IoT per la conservazione preventiva, piattaforme digitali per la gestione integrata dei siti culturali con funzioni di manutenzione predittiva e sicurezza, e modelli di smart city applicati ai distretti culturali. L'approccio converge nella realizzazione di Smart Heritage District, ecosistemi in cui innovazione tecnologica, efficienza energetica e valorizzazione culturale si integrano.
Infine, il Laboratorio contribuisce alla standardizzazione e alla gestione della conoscenza attraverso lo sviluppo di standard tecnici e metodologici, modelli di interoperabilità tra piattaforme eterogenee, strumenti di knowledge management per supportare decisioni e pianificazione, e linee guida replicabili in diversi contesti urbani e territoriali.
Accanto agli strumenti di misura, il laboratorio utilizza un insieme integrato di piattaforme digitali e tecnologie basate sulla conoscenza per il monitoraggio avanzato, l'analisi dei dati e il supporto decisionale:
PELL IP per il censimento statico e dinamico degli impianti di illuminazione pubblica, con analisi delle grandezze elettriche ed energetiche.
PELL Edifici Pubblici per il censimento delle scuole pubbliche (anagrafica, impianti, vulnerabilità sismica) e il monitoraggio dei consumi energetici.
PELL Seismic per il monitoraggio dello scuotimento del suolo e della vulnerabilità sismica degli edifici, con calcolo di KPI dedicati.
DHOMUS, piattaforma per utenti residenziali con smart meter per la raccolta e condivisione di dati energetici, il benchmark e la promozione di comportamenti energetici consapevoli.
SmartSIM, strumento online che fornisce valutazioni personalizzate per la riduzione dei consumi, dei costi e dell'impatto ambientale delle abitazioni.
RECON, applicazione web per la valutazione energetica, ambientale, economica e finanziaria delle Comunità Energetiche Rinnovabili e dei sistemi di autoconsumo collettivo.
