Fulvio Cruciani è un genetista di popolazione e professore ordinario di Genetica presso la Sapienza
Università di Roma, conosciuto per i suoi contributi allo studio della diversità genetica umana e
dell’evoluzione delle popolazioni. La sua ricerca si concentra principalmente sull’analisi del
cromosoma Y e del DNA mitocondriale come marcatori molecolari per ricostruire la storia
demografica, le migrazioni preistoriche e le relazioni filogenetiche delle popolazioni umane, con
particolare attenzione all’Africa, al Mediterraneo e all’Europa. I suoi lavori hanno fornito evidenze
fondamentali sui processi di espansione e migrazione tra Africa ed Eurasia, sull’origine e la diffusione
di specifici aplogruppi e sui meccanismi evolutivi che modellano i cromosomi sessuali, inclusi
fenomeni di conversione genica e riarrangiamenti strutturali. Accanto alla genetica evoluzionistica,
svolge attività didattica e di ricerca in genetica forense, applicando la variabilità genetica umana
all’identificazione individuale, ai test di parentela e allo studio di popolazioni strutturate. Autore di
numerose pubblicazioni su riviste scientifiche internazionali di alto impatto, Fulvio Cruciani integra
ricerca avanzata, formazione di giovani ricercatori e coordinamento di progetti nazionali e
internazionali, contribuendo in modo significativo alla comprensione della storia genetica
dell’umanità.
