Giomi Folco

I am associate professor (tenure track) at the Department of Biology, University of Rome Tor Vergata, with a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Padova. My academic path includes positions as research associate at Italian institutions (Padova, Palermo) and a five-year postdoctoral experience at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (Germany), supported by a Marie Curie - Intra-European Fellowship. My research focuses on ecophysiology, thermal adaptations, and the impacts of climate change on aquatic and terrestrial ectotherms, integrating physiological, ecological, and evolutionary approaches. Fieldwork and collaborations have taken me to Antarctica, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia, where I contributed to advancing knowledge on the thermal resilience of air- and water-breathing species. I have organized international congresses and workshops on respiratory adaptations and climate change, published extensively in high-impact journals, and obtained numerous competitive grants. Additionally, I serve as associate editor and peer reviewer for leading academic journals and funding agencies. My work is driven by a commitment to understanding and addressing the vulnerabilities of organisms and communities in a changing climate.
